This paper aims to review and sort out the innovation process of Chinese contemporary traditional furniture and divide it into stages, and summarize the innovation trend of contemporary traditional furniture. Through literature reading, field investigation and interviews, the innovative design theories and cases of traditional furniture since the contemporary era were summarized, the relevant innovation background was excavated, and the relevant designers, enterprise managers and technical personnel were deeply investigated and interviewed, to comb out the innovative process of contemporary traditional furniture more completely. Through comparative analysis, the whole innovation process is divided into stages. Through induction, this paper summarizes the innovative trend of contemporary traditional furniture. The innovation of Chinese contemporary traditional furniture has gone through five stages:the lost period in the first 30 years after the founding of the people's Republic of China, the sprouting period in the 1980s, the beginning period in the 1990s, the booming period in the first decade of the 21st century and the famous period in the 2020s. Moreover, since the 1990s, the innovation of Chinese contemporary traditional furniture has shown the characteristics of "innovation fever". The innovation of contemporary traditional furniture presents a trend of the more perfect product system, more mature innovation system, more expanded innovation themes, more diversified innovation approaches, more integration of innovative ideas, and more scientific innovation theories and methods.
