Abstract

Touch, as the most direct and essential sensory channel for human beings to actively perceive and respond to the external world and other individuals, has become a research focus of interaction design and user experience design in recent years. Due to the multiple dimensions of human haptic perception, the diversity of sensing and driving technologies, and the existence of various natural tactile feedback inside the home, haptic interaction has not been fully utilized in smart home scenarios. Today, with the gradual popularization of smart home systems, haptic interaction helps smart devices to more naturally integrate into the daily life scenes familiar with users, and optimize the user experience. Based on the connotation and development trend of natural human-computer interaction in smart home, this paper discusses the natural advantages of touch the current haptic technologies, as well as determines the adequate technologies and design framework of haptic interfaces in the home context. Through a large number of case studies, it can be found that discriminating haptic interaction can reduce the cost, improve the operation efficiency, interaction naturalness and user comfort in the control, monitoring, display and security scenes of smart home, while retaining the familiar household objects and related lifestyle of users, optimize their smart living experience; at the same time, haptic interaction can also put forward new solutions and new devices in sensory enhancement, emotional communication, multimodal media and other aspects, bringing into play the unique emotion-carrying ability of touch, while expanding the immersion experience of smart home for users. In addition, a series of design tools are listed to help designers build haptic interaction experience.
