Abstract
Visually impaired family members have diverse and different needs, but a water dispenser can only meet limited needs. The paper aims to solve this problem under the guidance of inclusive design, and perform the analysis of family members of operating ability levels and drinking fountain preferences to design the water dispenser based on the results of the analysis. The needs of drinking water are analyzed and organized by observing and interviewing visually impaired families. Then, visually impaired family’s preferences of water dispenser are obtained through a questionnaire. Usability testing of the selected water dispenser is conducted for the visually impaired, the elderly, and the young. Three design strategies are proposed based on the results of observing and interviewing, questionnaire, and usability testing:Multi-route simplifies the procedure, detection of water improves drinking quality, multi-channel feedback adapts to various abilities. Then, the water dispenser is redesigned. Under the premise of meeting the diverse abilities of visually impaired families, a water dispenser has been designed to meet the diverse needs of families. The design improves the experience of water dispensers for visually impaired families, providing a reference for solving the drinking problems of visually impaired families and related product design.
