The work aims to sort out the cultural development of Chinese characters with both information dissemination and artistic aesthetic functions based on the research vision of design from the interdisciplinary perspectives of communication, aesthetics, etc., so as to establish a novel historical view of Chinese character design and separate Chinese characters from pure art or typography, thus forming a relatively independent design research system, and providing Chinese character design education and design practice with more systematic and complete theoretical basis and academic support. Through the combination of literature research, comparative research, empirical research and other multidisciplinary research methods, the academic concepts related to Chinese character design were clarified, the evolution of Chinese character forms and presentation carriers were combed, the logical context of Chinese character culture and national livelihoods were sorted out, and the design issues in the development of Chinese characters were examined in a comprehensive and systematic manner. The historical evolution of Chinese character form and design style was used as the horizontal axis of development to explore the hidden cultural context. The relationship between the internal logical elements in the development of Chinese characters was explored with Chinese character design thinking, supporting technical carriers and practical applications as the vertical axis.Firstly, the concept of "history of Chinese character design" was distinctly proposed. Secondly, the main structure of the history of Chinese character design was sorted out from both horizontal and vertical latitudes. The historical theoretical system was constructed from the perspective of design, and then the accumulated wisdom and methods of Chinese character design were applied to art and design teaching, and concrete design practice. The "historical view of Chinese character design" can be used to explore the profound design wisdom and connotations of traditional Chinese culture in the Chinese characters, enhance the cultural value in art and design education, and design practice and expand the theoretical research space and practical creation field of Chinese character design, thus providing theoretical basis for constructing the disciplinary, academic and discourse system for the history of Chinese character design.
