Abstract

The work aims to investigate the applicability of user interface navigation for elderly users under different task scenarios. The SOC theory and the task evaluation model were combined to establish a usability evaluation method for the SOC-TM model of elderly user interface navigation. Based on a face-to-face usability test on thirty subjects, the task completion indicator, task performance indicator and subjective satisfaction evaluation indicator of elder users' operation interface navigation under different task scenarios were measured. The task correctness rate of elderly users was significantly lower than that of young users. There was no significant difference in task completion time between elderly users and young users. When elderly users used list and drawer navigation, the task completion time fluctuated greatly, and the stability of operation was low. The subjective satisfaction evaluation indicator of elderly users was lower than that of young users, and the SOC self-evaluation scale scores of elderly users were positively correlated with task correctness and negatively correlated with task completion time. In the usability evaluation and design improvement of elderly-oriented interface navigation, the operation ability of elderly users should be fully evaluated. Different types of interface navigation modes should be matched according to different operational abilities. Multi-dimensional indicators should be used to evaluate and improve the design of interface navigation, and the principle of usability interoperability between different applications should be considered.
