The work aims to study the color symbols of Yun Brocade in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and explore their application in modern design. With Yun Brocade of the Ming and Qing Dynasties in the collections as the research objects, the cultural relics materials collected in the Palace Museum and the Beijing Art Museum were adopted for the study. Through semiotic analysis and color sample comparison, discussion was conducted in terms of shaping factors, characteristics, and ways of application of color symbols, so as to make a thorough inquiry into the form and law of formation of the color symbols of Yun Brocade, thus providing more inspirations and references for future research into the colors of Yun Brocade and their effective integration with modern design. Yun Brocade fabrics of the Ming and Qing Dynasties and their color symbols were the products from the mingling between the social class and the aesthetic skills of that time. Its semiotic meanings and laws of symbolic application were of certain reference value for both the renovation of traditional Chinese brocade craft arts and the development of the modern design of color systems. Its rich values in terms of history, culture, and art provided a diverse range of ideas for the inheritance and innovation of the precious craft skills of Yun Brocade, either through the designing and application of its color symbols or with reference to its application law of color. Through the research into the color symbols of Yun Brocade of the Ming and Qing Dynasties and the exploration of its practical application in the modern design of cultural and creative products, the color symbols of Yun Brocade and their symbolic meanings are clearly summarized and revealed in a way that will help decode the cultural and artistic values of Yun Brocade back to the Ming and Qing Dynasties and bring about more creative inheritance and innovation of traditional textile technology in modern artistic design.
