Abstract

As crucial mediums for the dissemination of knowledge, books are active in various fields with diverse language forms. By integrating the theory of the five senses, the work aims to study how artistically handmade books can carve out new directions in the digital reading era, laying out paths for their development. From the case studies, five senses were applied in the design of handmade books from the perspectives of sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch, presenting a diversified, multi-form and multi-dimensional book art language and exploring readers' multi-sensory experience. This approach breaks people's existing concept for traditional book reading, explores new experience mode based on the five senses, and broadens the design pathways and methods for handmade books, thus offering a point of reference for the development of traditional print books in an era of independent shared artistry.
