Through the present theoretical innovation of the Chinese traditional creation wisdom of "Zhi Qi Shang Xiang", the work aims to study the decorations and their connotations related to nature in green packaging and summarize the design path of decorations in green packaging based on "Zhi Qi Shang Xiang". Literature research and case analysis were mainly used for connecting "Zhi Qi Shang Xiang" with the decoration in modern green packaging. The green packaging and its decoration were treated with dialectical method from different perspectives. Then, according to the symbolic levels of "Zhi Qi Shang Xiang", the decoration was divided into three categories, namely "Xiang Xing", "Xiang Li" and "Xiang De". After that, the specific design cases were studied in combination with the decoration categories separately. The presence of decoration in green packaging was reasonable. Through the re-understanding of the traditional Chinese design wisdom about "Xiang", more natural images could be obtained as the source of design and the medium for conveying ideas. The design theories that are compatible with the modern design in traditional culture and creation wisdom to guide green packaging and its decoration design can provide researchers and designers with a more nationalized and open reference for green packaging design.
