The work aims to investigate public participation-oriented community sustainable design strategies and design practices under the perspective of sustainability. Through the analysis of people's awareness, social innovation requirements and community sustainable development needs, the necessity of public participation in community sustainable design was shown; Combined with literature research, the core characteristics of public participation in community practice were analyzed around the subject of public participation, the participation goals, the stages of participation and the modes of participation. And the three phases of the process of public participation, namely co-experiencing, co-designing, and co-reflecting, were summarized. Three target paths were proposed for the three stages of public participation in terms of multiple participation, collaborative innovation and value shaping. Sustainable community design strategies under the concept of public participation were summarized. With rPET recycled products as an example, sustainable design co-creation activities were carried out in the community. The practice of sustainable community design incorporating participatory features enhances residents' willingness to practice sustainable behaviors, verifies the feasibility of public participation in sustainable community design, and gives the community more possibilities in the mechanism of "human" sustainable construction.
