The work aims to analyze the photographic images and text data obtained from multiple channels based on tourist gaze theory and ZMET metaphor extraction technique and study the structural characteristics, tourist behavior and consensus map construction of the place sense of Chinese Baroque historical and cultural blocks in Daowai District of Harbin City. Combined with the development status and problems of historical and cultural blocks, the urban tourism image, historical and cultural heritage protection and spatial planning are improved. Tourists were interviewed by ZMET metaphor extraction technique, and tourists' mental model and consensus map were constructed. Five stage research methods were adopted, including interview collection, involvement analysis, combination analysis of ZMET metaphor extraction technique and tourist gaze theory, factor analysis and user cognitive psychology, analysis and exploration. Finally, the consensus map of Chinese Baroque historical and cultural blocks and the cognition of tourists' sense of place were obtained. Based on the analysis of high-frequency construct structure table and consensus map, it was concluded that compared with the material environment and the activity experience, the tourists' perception image of the Chinese Baroque historical and cultural blocks was insufficient, and the impression of the intangible environment was inadequate. When promoting the architectural heritage and regional characteristics of historical and cultural blocks, it is necessary to focus on planning the components of immaterial environment and the sense of place of activity experience. The study of tourist gaze theory and ZMET can provide reference for the planners and the government, improve the image of urban tourism and promote the sustainable development of urban economy. In the future, it is expected to further explore sample interview methods and relevant theoretical research, build a comprehensive consensus map and place sense structure, and deepen the research conclusions.
