Abstract

Specific to the fuzzy and subjective problem of explicit and implicit factor extraction and characterization in the process of traditional cultural symbol redesign, the work aims to propose a research method of explicit and implicit cultural feature extraction and application based on topological semiotics and eye-movement experiments. Taking Huangmei cross-stitch as an example, based on the topological semiotics, eye-movement experiments were incorporated. Firstly, the cultural feature words of Huangmei cross-stitch (implicit factor) were extracted by crawling technique and their topological interval values were obtained by topological semantic evaluation. Secondly, the eye-movement experiments were used to extract the pattern features (explicit factors) and combine them with the implicit factor topological interval values for comprehensive graphical semantic evaluation. Finally, the pattern elements were designed by topological transformation. The transformation results were reasonably applied in the design of costume patterns. The research shows that this method can correct the bias of the traditional characterization of cultural features based on practitioners' experience and subjective thinking, and can objectively and scientifically extract explicit and implicit factors as design factors, which helps to better express the cultural connotation of cultural and creative products.
