Abstract

The Tianjin Section of the Grand Canal holds a crucial role and boasts a vibrant canal culture heritage. The work aims to employ digital technology to establish a living museum system with "online + offline" interaction capability for the Grand Canal, to enhance the application and preservation of the cultural heritage of the Tianjin Section. The kernel density analysis was conducted by Geographic Information System (GIS) to investigate the current state of the Tianjin Section and the spatial structure characteristics of different cultural heritages. According to the analysis results, the offline exhibition space range of the living museum was planned, and based on the distribution of canal cultural heritage, the various themed exhibition areas in the form of museum and the tour route were planned and designed. Based on visualization technology, databases, and digital technology innovations such as JPS, a digital platform was constructed for the Grand Canal Living Museum, and the construction methods of digital platform modules and digital navigation systems were explained respectively. Building the Tianjin Grand Canal Living Museum system can not only enrich the ways of cultural heritage protection and utilization in Tianjin Section of the Grand Canal but also provide a practical reference for designing the navigation system of the Grand Canal National Cultural Park.
