The work aims to explore the architectural features and cultural symbolism of the Forbidden City, conduct derivative design to enable consumers to effectively experience the architectural culture of the Forbidden City in the food experience, and attach a strong local cultural heritage to the old Beijing copper hotpot tableware. The architectural features of the Forbidden City was analyzed through the design syntactic analysis proposed by Warell. At the same time, the features of the Forbidden City was translated into the product design research suitable for ceramic hotpot tableware according to the cultural and creative design model of a famous scholar Lin, R. T. In the end, the five representations, which were the East Asian hip-and-gable roof, the eaves and cornices, the ridge of the Hall of Supreme Harmony, the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvest, and the architectural style, could be effectively integrated into the design of ceramic hotpot tableware. The award-winning works and the practical application results provide objective evidence to the research. In conclusion, the two research methods can provide reliable reference for research, cultural and creative design of cultural heritage. With the help of the research methods, it is helpful to deeply explore and expand the excellent local cultural heritage, and then achieve the sustainable development of cultural heritage in the form of cultural and creative products
