Abstract
The work aims to propose a novel product metaphor design method by combining the LDA model and imagery schema, so as to achieve metaphor selection and translation in the design process. Firstly, the emotional experiences of events in the source domain were analyzed using LDA clustering to obtain thematic metaphors of users in that domain. Secondly, imagery schema was extracted through in-depth interviews and schema representation analysis, and important schema translation factors were identified through AHP evaluation and ranking. Finally, these schema factors were combined and expressed to associate with corresponding product functional features, to complete the translation from imagery metaphor to product metaphor. The study exemplified this method with stress-relief products, identifying six major themes (sensory relaxation, emotional satisfaction, benign experience development, exploration of the unknown, unconscious instinct, and physical release) and corresponding modalities through LDA clustering, along with illustrative factors. Using a visual desktop Bluetooth speaker as the design medium, metaphorical designs for music playback, interactive exploration, automatic sleep, and emotional release were developed through the integration of visual, auditory, and tactile modalities with schema association. Moreover, the design schemes were evaluated using a weighted algorithm, confirming the validity of the method. In conclusion, this study explores and applies a product metaphor design method based on the LDA model and imagery schema, validating its feasibility and effectiveness, and providing valuable examples and insights for the design research of product metaphors and other emotionally valuable products.
