Abstract

The work aimsto explore the innovative path of using fiber materials and techniques for art restoration by taking Lingnan intangible cultural heritage, Clay Sculpture, as an example, and strive to provide new ideas for art restoration. Typical Lingnan Clay Sculpture buildings such as Chen's Ancestral Hall in Liwan District and Grand Minister Memorial Temple in Huadu District of Guangzhou were investigated and Shao Chengcun, the national intangible cultural heritage inheritor of Clay Sculpture, was interviewed. By referring to literature related to Clay Sculpture culture and art restoration, and combining the investigation data of Lingnan Clay Sculpture such as color, texture, shape and theme, the effective information was sorted out, summarized and extracted. The correlation between fiber technology and Clay Sculpture restoration was discussed to ensure the reasonable and smooth progress of art restoration. The creative art restoration of a series of Lingnan Clay Sculpture debris was completed, and the debris "falling" down from the roof of the temple was restored to present a new artistic beauty. Fiber materials and techniques meet the demand of Clay Sculpture restoration to some extent. The fiber process can not only restore the Clay Sculpture debris, but also better protect the restored objects with its soft, moisturizing and thermal insulation material characteristics. In addition, this study plays a positive role in promoting the Clay Sculpture as an intangible cultural heritage and allowing more people to improve their understanding of fiber art design.
