Abstract

Intergenerational cooperative drawing can effectively enhance the emotional and cognitive gains of the elderly and children, but there are problems of uneven and loose cooperation in practice. Based on social interdependence theory, the work aims to explore how the interactive animation of drawing content can enhance the engagement and cooperative behavior of cooperative drawing between the elderly and children in the design of an intergenerational cooperative drawing system. Based on Approximate Rigid Deformation (As-Rigid-As-Possible) and Bilinear Interpolation Algorithm (Bilinear Interpolation Algorithm), an interactive prototype of intergenerational collaborative drawing was developed, and the Wizard-of-Oz method was used to simulate AI to realize the interactive animation of the drawing content to enhance the participation and depth of the collaborative behavior. A combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods was adopted and 16 dyads of children and the elderly were invited to conduct a within-group experiment. The interactive animation of drawing content significantly increased drawing engagement in both the elderly and children, facilitated an increase in task-oriented behaviors, and reduced cooperative imbalance to some extent. This study confirms the positive role of interactive animation in enhancing intergenerational cooperative drawing and lays the foundation for subsequent intergenerational cooperative drawing design.
