The work aims to comprehensively analyze the application status, development trend and global features of Gestalt psychology in the research of designology in China. Literature on which applying Gestalt psychology to designology research included in the CNKI database were selected as data sources. The scientific bibliometrics method and software CiteSpace and VOSviewer were applied to conduct a visual metric analysis. In conclusion, the number of literature within the search scope shows an overall rising trend. But in recent years, there are large fluctuations and a downward development trend. The research hotspots mainly focus on (1) visual communication design; (2) interaction and user experience design; (3) landscape and space design; and (4) basic theories and methods. Visual communication design is still the core of the future research trend in this field. At the same time, more emphasis should be paid on the attention of human perception and emotional experience, as well as the concern of environmental sustainability and effective use of resources. Universities are the application subject of applied Gestalt psychology research in the field of Designology in China. So the lack of inter-institutional cooperation, and the small number of high-productivity authors and the lack of formation of a group are the limitations of the research at this stage.
