Modeling Safety Design of Airplane Economy Class Seat Based on FRAM

Abstract

In order to address the sub-health issues caused by the prolonged air travel, the work aims to optimize the safety design method of airplane economy class seat modeling, providing theoretical support for practical design applications of airplane economy class seat. The Functional Resonance Analysis Method (FRAM) was employed to improve the safety design of economy class seat modeling. Through the whole process of identifying and describing the passengers' journey, a FRAM functional network diagram was established, and the functional resonance possibilities were analyzed based on the interconnections between nodes. The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) was then applied to calculate the weights of unsafe factors, which were further combined with results from electroencephalogram (EEG) experiments to refine the design. Finally, the safety design practice of economy class seats was guided based on this method and virtual simulation experiments were conducted to verify the feasibility of the optimized design. By incorporating FRAM into the early-stage safety design of economy class seat modeling, this study enhances the scientific and practical aspects of seat design, ensuring passengers' safety while delivering a more comfortable flight experience.
