Game Strategies for Stroke Elbow Rehabilitation Based on Rehabilitation Goals

Abstract

The work aims to explore the characteristics of stroke elbow rehabilitation games based on rehabilitation goals, so as to enhance patients' rehabilitation experience, promote rehabilitation compliance, and improve rehabilitation outcomes. After a comprehensive analysis of existing stroke upper limb rehabilitation products and game features, rehabilitation goals based on patients' physiological characteristics and psychological needs were established. Subsequently, a target-oriented game strategy analysis was conducted to provide useful guidance for the design of rehabilitation games. Following this, a repeated measurement experiment of 2×2×2 was conducted to verify the effectiveness of game strategy in achieving rehabilitation goals and the interaction effects of various factors and their different parameters on game scores. The analysis revealed the impact of intrinsic and extrinsic incentives in the reward zone on game scores and rehabilitation outcomes. Continuous increment in scores in extrinsic incentives significantly influenced enhancing rehabilitation outcomes, and the combination of extrinsic and intrinsic incentives affected goal-directed behaviors, thus generating interactive effects. In conclusion, by combining rehabilitation goals and requirements, game design strategies are constructed, and experiments are conducted to explore and verify specific game element features and parameter design guided by game strategies, which can effectively enhance rehabilitation outcomes and provide a reference for the design of rehabilitation game strategies.
