Immersive Interaction Design of Nanjing Folk Museum under PAT Model

Abstract

The work aims to enhance the flow experience of museum audiences through immersive interaction, thereby expanding the boundaries of the audience base, creating closed-loop logic for museum exhibition journeys, and providing a pathway for the improvement of Nanjing Folk Museum by coupling and integration of national characteristics and advanced concepts. With the PAT model of flow theory as a framework, this study first analyzed the unique challenges faced by Nanjing Folk Museum. It then took the museum's potential audience as representatives of the user level, immersive interaction methods and the museum's own conditions as representatives of the tool level, and interactive experiences as representatives of the task level to explore the museum's renewal path. The research proposed three specific approaches for the museum through the steps of categorization, closure, and elevation:creating a multi-dimensional folk culture space, improving the audience's experiential journey, and expanding shareable new media. By revitalizing traditional cultural content with contemporary design methods, the museum embraces digital reconstruction, with immersive interactive experiences becoming the most dynamic approach to sustainable development, ensuring the innovative continuation of civilization.
