Abstract
The work aims to break free from the constraints of the functionalist design paradigm of the industrial era and propose a new design paradigm for future home living, so as to adapt to the intelligent age, address the societal transformations driven by the deep integration of artificial intelligence technologies, the digitalization of the home industry, and the accelerated population structure adjustments caused by aging. From a phenomenological perspective, the relationships between consumer society, semiotics, and modernist design were explored, while the intellectual lineage of these concepts was traced. By reflecting on the materialization of technology in the intelligent age, the study revealed the three attributes of objects, namely instrumentality, symbolism, and spirituality. This perspective deconstructed the traditional paradigm's singular understanding of objects, reconstructing a home living system based on self-consciousness. It established a home living design paradigm with bodily perception as the starting point, emotional interaction as the pathway, and meaning construction as the guiding principle. Through a comparative study with the industrial era design paradigm, this paper reveals that the home living design paradigm in the intelligent age shifts its focus and emphasizes the importance of "from materiality to spirituality" in smart home design. This paradigm leap is achieved through the empowerment of technology and the infusion of humanistic values, transitioning from the "efficiency of objects" to the "resonance of spirit".
