Abstract

The work aims to analyze the classic phoenix pattern characteristics of Mulao ethnic group, propose an implementation path for the derivative design and application of phoenix patterns, and achieve the active inheritance of Mulao ethnic phoenix pattern culture. Firstly, the images of Mulao ethnic phoenix patterns were collected, the characteristics of phoenix patterns were analyzed and the core phoenix patterns were designed. Secondly, the shape grammar was used to generate unit patterns and the color factors were extracted based on K-means clustering algorithm. Finally, the topological configurations were combined for derivative design of innovative phoenix patterns. The phoenix pattern reflects the moral pursuit of life beauty by Mulao people, forming the morphological characteristics of pointed beaks, multi crown phoenix crowns, curling-up long tail, and C-shaped phoenix bodies. Based on this, the core phoenix pattern, 10 basic graphic units and 8 representative color factors, are extracted to complete the derivative design of phoenix patterns. The generated pattern integrates tradition and modernity, with a vivid and exquisite overall image, showcasing the beauty of harmony in the secret realm of Southwest China. It is applied to the packaging of ethnic cultural and creative products such as pillows, phone cases, and handbags, enhancing the cultural connotation and artistic value of the products.
