Design of Recreational Sports Equipment for the Homebody Youth Based on the Flow Theory

Abstract

The work aims to develop recreational sports equipment based on the flow theory to meet the needs of the homebody youth. Questionnaires and semi-structured interviews were used to collect user needs. The user needs were prioritized through the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). These needs were then translated into design specifications through Quality Function Deployment and mapped to design parameters through Axiomatic Design to ensure the consistency of product design and the rationalization of functions. The feasibility and rationality of the design were assessed through Gray Relational Analysis (GRA). With the optimized AR glasses design as an example, a solution was provided for the homebody youth to engage in physical exercise while enjoying entertainment. Through expert gray relational evaluation, it was found that the design performed well in guiding interaction, social collaboration and other key indicators, and it was the best compared with other similar products. By integrating both quantitative and qualitative methods, the study demonstrates the rationality of the flow theory and the integrated approaches and enhances users' immersive and interactive experiences, which is of guiding significance for relevant recreational sports fields.
