Innovative Design of Ming Dynasty Enamel Ware Patterns Based on Cultural Gene and Shape Grammar

Abstract

The work aims to propose new paths and methods for the contemporary innovative design transformation and cultural dissemination of Ming Dynasty enamel ware patterns, to trace their cultural connotation and contemporary innovative transformation. Methods such as literature research, auction visit survey, genetic analysis and computer-aided design were adopted to study the patterns of Ming Dynasty enamel wares. Firstly, based on the theory of cultural genes, the patterns were traced back to the cultural gene analysis in terms of morphology, color, and decorative craft genes, and then the gene genealogical library of enamel ware patterns was constructed after adopting expert evaluation and weighted quantitative analysis of morphology genes. Secondly, starting from the reasoning formula and process of shape grammar, the extracted and simplified patterns in the gene library were selected for the generation of basic units and derivative derivation, so as to form innovative patterns. Based on the quantitative analysis of product and user needs and market research, the packaging of tea and coffee wares was used as the product carrier, together with the derived supporting design materials, to jointly empower the transformation of the contemporary value and application of enamel ware patterns. Traceability and derivation are the basic paths for the inheritance and innovation of enamel ware patterns, and the construction of a genealogical library based on the genes of enamel ware patterns in form, color and decorative craftsmanship, as well as the evolution and application of the cultural genes can provide a research paradigm for the modern transformation research of enamel ware patterns, and provide a reference for the innovation and design of contemporary enamel ware patterns.
