Three-dimensional Type Design of Humble Administrator's Garden in the Context of Digitalization

Abstract

The work aims to address the limitation of Chinese character representation imposed by two-dimensional planes in the digital age, achieve the transfer of semantic and graphic meanings of Chinese characters, and explore the forms of three-dimensional representation of Chinese characters and cultural communication methods in the practice of three-dimensional type design in the Humble Administrator's Garden. The semiotic theory was adopted to analyze the three-dimensional representation of Chinese characters from the perspectives of syntax, semantics, and pragmatics. The architectural structure and cultural connotations of the Humble Administrator's Garden were closely examined and transformed into sources of inspiration for type design. Modern three-dimensional modeling techniques were employed to simulate and adjust design schemes, ensuring the visual appeal and cultural depth of the types. The research results showed that the organic combination of Chinese character forms and graphic forms was successfully demonstrated by increasing the spatial depth and visual hierarchy. The successful implementation of the three-dimensional type design project in the Humble Administrator's Garden achieves the mutual transformation of semantic and graphic meanings of Chinese characters. This not only enriches the expressive forms of Chinese characters but also enhances the depth of cultural inheritance and the possibilities for multidimensional cognition.
