Application of Traditional Patterns of Jiangxi Gannan Embroidery in the Shape Design of New Chinese Style Seats

Abstract

The work aims to explore the fusion point of traditional culture and modern design through the investigation on structures of new Chinese style seats and patterns of Gannan embroidery and then create a seat product that not only has cultural heritage but also meets modern aesthetic needs. Firstly, by investigating the traditional pattern and composition of Gannan embroidery, the connotation and design features were interpreted. Next, the main cultural elements affecting the design were extracted by Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP), and the users' perceptual intention was analyzed by Kansei engineering theory. Then, through the analysis on representative patterns of Gannan embroidery, the relevant perceptual words were extracted and analyzed in clusters to determine the perceptual image description. Finally, the shape deconstruction of the new Chinese style seat was constructed, and the perceptual words were projected into the seat design. The particle swarm optimization and support vector regression (PSO-SVR) algorithm was introduced to generate and optimize the seat components, ensuring the design scheme meeting the needs of users and having functional and aesthetic values. A new Chinese style seat that conforms to the cultural attributes of Gannan and modern consumer aesthetics is designed. The combination of the design of new Chinese style seats with the cultural elements and modern design concepts of Gannan embroidery meets the dual needs of consumers for traditional culture and modern aesthetics.
