Elderly-oriented Furniture Design Under Multi-scenario Models

Abstract

Focusing on furniture design for the two primary modes of elderly case: home-based care and nursing house care, the work aims to comprehensively evaluate and improve elderly-friendly furniture design through the application of multi-scenario modeling, to more effectively meet the needs of elderly populations in specific regions, and address the adaptability of living environments for the elderly. A user-centered approach was adopted to thoroughly analyze the living environments and behaviors of the elderly, identifying the limitations of existing elderly-oriented furniture in terms of safety and usability. The study further developed a theoretical framework for elderly-oriented furniture design, which included a conceptual model, design pathways, and system design. This framework was intended to optimize the planning of furniture, behavioral habit analysis, form selection, and scenario-based interaction, ensuring regional adaptability and cultural sensitivity in design outcomes. Elderly-oriented furniture should facilitate interaction and engagement between the elderly and their living environments, thereby enhancing their quality of life. The design framework must integrate real-world needs under diverse cultural contexts to establish cross-regional design standards. Furthermore, the design process should adhere to scientific methodologies to ensure the feasibility of proposed solutions.
