Optimization Design of Human-computer Interaction in Smart Community Security System for Elderly User Experience

Abstract

With the continuous advancement of smart community construction, elderly users frequently encounter problems such as complex operations and unclear feedback when using intelligent security systems, which severely affects their willingness to use and their sense of safety. The work aims to focus on optimizing the user experience of elderly individuals in smart community security systems from the perspective of human-computer interaction design. Through literature review, questionnaire surveys, and in-depth interviews, the needs and feedback of elderly users in using security systems were collected. Based on the human-computer interaction design theory, the interface and function optimization strategies tailored to elderly users were proposed. A prototype was developed, and user testing was conducted, incorporating both quantitative and qualitative analyses to assess system usability and user satisfaction. Furthermore, the interaction flow was reconstructed and the visual interface prototypes were designed according to typical task scenarios. Next, the quantitative and qualitative evaluations were performed through user testing and semantic differential scales. The optimized system significantly improved the performance across multiple dimensions, including operation success rate, comprehension accuracy, and emotional satisfaction, while notably reducing technology-related anxiety among elderly users. The community security systems should strengthen age-friendly interaction logic and emphasize cultural semantics and vulnerability- aware mechanisms within the interface design, aiming to achieve both inclusive technology and intergenerational coexistence.
