Design of Shopping Carts for the Elderly Based on KJ -KANO Model

Abstract

The work aims to provide the elderly with safe, convenient, and comfortable shopping carts that meet their daily shopping needs. First, the KJ method was used to identify the user group of shopping carts for the elderly, from which typical users were selected for in-depth interviews. User portraits were then created, and needs of shopping carts for the elderly were listed and categorized into different levels. Next, a KANO model questionnaire was designed based on the functional hierarchy list. By determining the weight ratios of each need, a satisfaction increment index was obtained to quantify and evaluate the functional need levels of shopping carts, and prioritize the needs. Finally, the user needs and preferences were translated into actual design data, and design elements were extracted and incorporated into the design of shopping carts. By applying the KJ method and the KANO evaluation method, specific needs of the elderly for shopping carts were identified, and corresponding strategies were proposed. A shopping cart that met the needs of elderly users was designed. A product innovation design method based on the KJ method and the KANO model is successfully established. This systematic, user-needs-driven design approach effectively enhances product user satisfaction, improves the quality of life for the elderly in an aging society, and provides valuable insights for future product development and innovation.
