Culture Gene Extraction and Design of Shenyang Intangible Cultural Heritage Zouma Lantern Based on AHP

Abstract

The work aims to construct a cultural gene map of Shenyang Zouma lanterns using AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) to identify and classify the structural system of cultural visual elements, study their cultural and artistic values, explore the integration of traditional and modern design approaches, and support their protection, inheritance, and innovation. By collecting literature, conducting field research, and interviewing intangible cultural heritage bearers, the cultural and design characteristics were analyzed, and the genetic traits of shapes, patterns, and colors were extracted. An evaluation system was constructed using AHP, involving expert evaluations, the establishment of a judgment matrix, and consistency checks to calculate factor weights. A cultural gene map was successfully constructed, clarifying the genetic traits of shapes, patterns, and colors, as well as the importance of each influencing factor, with shapes having the highest weight at the criterion level. Based on these findings, works such as "Glass Element Shadow" (a translation of traditional cultural elements into modern design) were created and exhibited in intangible cultural heritage exhibitions, attracting a large audience and receiving positive feedback, thus achieving the integration of traditional and modern design. This study developed a method for constructing a cultural gene map of Shenyang Zouma lanterns using AHP. Through multi-dimensional research and quantitative analysis, this method systematically extracted and weighted the cultural genes. A complete research path of "cultural gene extraction—AHP, weight analysis—modern design translation" is formed, providing a scientific methodological framework for the protection and innovation of intangible cultural heritage projects. The research findings provide a scientific basis for the inheritance and innovation of Shenyang Zouma lanterns, and its research approach and methods can also serve as a reference for the study of other intangible cultural heritage projects.
