Evaluation of Elderly-Oriented Outdoor Fitness Facilities in Smart Communities Using the AHP-IPA Model

Abstract

In the context of population aging and aligned with the development goals of smart communities, the work aims to explore new approaches to elderly-oriented design of outdoor fitness facilities from the perspective of "intelligent innovation", so as to scientifically evaluate and identify key areas for improvement in facility design, thereby promoting innovative optimization of fitness infrastructure in smart communities and enhancing the quality of life and user experience for elderly residents. A mixed-methods approach combining qualitative and quantitative research was adopted. First, key factors influencing elderly-oriented design were identified through literature review and user interviews. Then, an evaluation index system was constructed using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to quantify the weights of these factors. Subsequently, the Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA) model was employed to assess the current performance of outdoor fitness facilities in terms of aging-friendliness, and to determine design optimization priorities. The results showed significant deficiencies in smart community outdoor fitness facilities in terms of movement amplitude age-appropriateness, equipment condition reliability, environmental friendliness and comfort, and fitness guidance and safety education. The empirical data suggested that the elderly group's demand for optimization of these dimensions was more prominent. Based on the AHP-IPA analysis, core indicators requiring priority improvement were identified, and intelligent and innovative optimization strategies for elderly-oriented design were proposed. The study shows that the AHP-IPA evaluation method, which is centered on the concept of "Smart Creation", scientifically evaluates the aging performance of outdoor fitness facilities, provides theoretical support and practical references for the aging design of fitness facilities in smart communities, and helps to promote the intelligent and innovative development of healthy living scenarios for the elderly.
