Research on Emotional Design Tools from the Perspective of Embodied Cognition

Abstract

The work aims to conduct research on relevant methods of emotional design and develop corresponding tools to support the creative stimulation work carried out in design practice teaching. First, the embodied cognition theory was analyzed and the relationship between emotion and cognition was examined through the perspective of emotional generation mechanisms. Based on these findings, a product emotion model and emotional design methods were proposed. Guided by this framework, an emotional design support tool—comprising a set of "Lingxi cards" and a conceptual canvas—was developed. To assess the tool's efficacy, EEG experiments and design workshops were conducted. The design of design support tools completed through the research of emotional design methods demonstrate that this tool can provide systematic support for design learners, fostering creativity and improving efficiency in design activities. This research contributes to expanding the application of card-based tools in design education and bridges the theoretical gap between embodied cognition and emotional design methodologies. Furthermore, the development process and methodological framework offer valuable insights for future research on design support tools.
