Design of Elderly Furniture Products Orientated to Online Comment Texts: Taking the Elderly Commode Chair as an Example

Abstract

In order to address the disconnection between designers and the needs of elderly users, the work aims to construct an online comment text orientated product design path for elderly furniture and make full exploration with the example of an age-friendly commode chair. Firstly, the user online comment text was crawled by Python crawler tool, and user needs were mined according to the LDA topic model. Next, user needs were classified based on the F-Kano model and prioritized by the Better-Worse index method, and solutions were conceived according to the user needs with more advanced satisfaction index. Finally, the TOPSIS method was employed to make decision calculations on the design solutions and evaluation samples to select the best design solutions. The study indicated that the design of elderly furniture products guided by this path was reliable, which could more comprehensively acquire the needs of elderly users, accurately identify the types of user needs, objectively evaluate the design solutions, and greatly enhance the experience and satisfaction of elderly users. This study can provide a reference for similar elderly furniture product design and help designers and manufacturers to better acquire the needs of elderly users, so that they can make more accurate decisions in the design and development process.
