Sustainable Home Product Design Based on Auspicious Cultural Elements from the Bionic Perspective

Abstract

The work aims to design a multi-functional and sustainable home product integrated with auspicious cultural elements. Methodologically, combined with System Engineering Theory (SET), Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), TRIZ (Theory of Inventive Problem Solving), and Self-Attention Generative Adversarial Networks (Sagan), an innovative home product design framework was proposed. Initially, SET was applied to identify three hierarchical layers of factor groups, enabling a systematic analysis of design concepts, functional requirements, and aesthetic preferences, which collectively informed the formulation of design expectations and innovation priorities. Subsequently, AHP was employed to clarify design objectives by determining the relative weights of critical factors, namely sustainability, functionality, and aesthetics, thereby offering quantitative support for informed decision-making in later stages. Following this, the Sagan network was utilized to perform deep learning on traditional auspicious cultural elements and contemporary design styles, enabling the automatic identification and extraction of visual elements that aligned with modern consumer aesthetics while preserving cultural symbolism. These extracted elements not only reflected current design trends but also carried cultural significance, contributing to the continuity of heritage. Furthermore, the TRIZ methodology was applied to identify and resolve potential contradictions or conflicts encountered during the design process and optimized solutions were proposed to solve technical and functional challenges. The final outcome is a tri-functional home product that integrates the creative reuse of waste fabric with a bionic antler-inspired structure. Visually, it incorporates auspicious cultural patterns, and functionally, it offers adjustable mounting brackets and storage capabilities. Constructed from eco-friendly materials, the design supports sustainable development in the home product industry. This approach effectively addresses environmental and functional demands while fostering a deeper emotional and cultural connection between tradition and modernity.
