Research on Elderly-friendly Digital Product Design Identified Based on KANO-AHP-QFD Model

Abstract

The work aims to analyze the new design trends of elderly-friendly digital products under China's policy guidance, and explore effective countermeasures for product design to respond to policy goals and bridge the "digital divide" among the elderly. First, design-oriented dimensions were extracted from China's core policy documents over the past five years through policy text coding. Second, the KANO-AHP-QFD model was applied to identify the interactive needs of elderly users regarding policies and digital product design. Finally, based on the identified priority sequence of "safety as the foundation, ease of use as the core, medical care as the priority, and emotional care as the supplement", the correlation path between policies and design was proposed. Over the past five years, the policy system has provided clear guidance for design practice from six dimensions of "macro-strategic guidance", "legal and regulatory guarantees", "service ecosystem construction", "full-scenario integration promotion", "technological product innovation", and "user capability empowerment". Correlatively, a four-level framework of user needs was constructed, including "safety assurance", "user-friendly interaction", "medical collaboration", and "emotional care". It provided effective and feasible practical paths for developing elderly-friendly digital products that truly met the expectations of the elderly and effectively responded to national policies from four dimensions of "protective design orientation", "simplicity design orientation", "empowering design orientation", and "inclusive design orientation". The design of elderly-friendly digital products needs to promote the transformation of policy-driven forces into design practice through three-dimensional adaptation of policy driving, need recognition and strategy mapping. This enables the design of elderly-friendly digital products to serve as a catalyst for the "last mile" of policy implementation.
