Self-disciplined Behavior Design Patterns of Continuous Glucose Monitor Users Based on Atomic Habit Theory

Abstract

Self-management of blood glucose testing is a key to preventing or delaying the onset of diabetes. The work aims to optimize the process of self-monitoring with a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) based on the atomic habit theory, to help users develop self-disciplined habits of blood sugar control and enhance users' compliance with blood glucose monitoring. Taking the four laws of behavior change in the atomic habit theory as the underlying logic, this study deeply analyzed the usage behavior of CGM users, applied the LDA topic model and questionnaires to explore their latent demands, and constructed a model to guide users' self-disciplined behavior by studying their usage paths and combining behavioral change with emotional incentives. The user self-disciplined behavior model constructed was then applied to optimize the design of the CGM in terms of hardware operation, software functions, and service experience, thereby increasing users' compliance with the device. The user self-disciplined behavior model based on the atomic habit theory optimizes the product monitoring process, helping users better manage their blood glucose levels and form a self-disciplined lifestyle of blood sugar control.
