Modern Soft Decoration Pattern Regeneration Design Based on Visual Dynamics Theory and Shape Grammar

Abstract

The work aims to explore how to promote the modern transformation of cultural relics patterns in museums by combining visual dynamics theory and shape grammar, especially in the field of soft decorative design, so as to solve the problem of homogenization of traditional patterns in modern design and promote the innovative application of cultural heritage. With the "Golden Bowl with Mandarin Ducks and Lotus Petal Patterns" from the Tang Palace Secret Collection of the Shaanxi History Museum as the object of study, eye movement experiments were carried out to collect visual feedback from users and patterns were analyzed and deduced in combination with the shape grammar to explore the design method of transforming the traditional pattern into modern soft decoration by combining experiments and design practice. The eye movement experimental data revealed users' visual concerns and preferences for patterns, providing guidance for optimizing pattern design and visual experience. Sample patterns were finally extracted and innovatively extrapolated, and the validity and feasibility of the innovative design scheme were verified by combining with product design practice. Through practice, the validity of the application of visual dynamics theory and shape grammar in the transformation of traditional patterns is verified, and new ideas are provided for the innovative application of traditional cultural elements in modern design. The study shows that the integration of traditional patterns into modern soft decoration design can not only realize cultural heritage, but also promote design innovation and meet the aesthetic needs of modern space.
