Decoding and Design Translation of Cultural Genes from the Xiangxi Miao Flower Belt Based on the AHP-Grounded Theory

Abstract

The work aims to explore the extraction and translation path of cultural genes in ethnic art with the Xiangxi Miao flower belt as an example and propose innovative development strategies for ethnic art in modern cultural and creative product design. Firstly, a cultural factor library was constructed for the Xiangxi Miao flower belt based on the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), and the weight values of each cultural factor was quantified through indicator evaluation and hierarchical judgment matrix. Secondly, the grounded theory was employed to collect the consumption needs of target users. Next, high weight cultural factors of the Xiangxi Miao flower belt were designed and translated with the shape grammar and the design scheme was generated. Finally, the design scheme was tested and optimized with the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method. Based on the four extracted cultural genes and the preferences of the target users, a series of cultural and creative products of the Xiangxi Miao flow belt were designed. The comprehensive research method combining the Analytic Hierarchy Process and the Grounded Theory effectively reduces the subjectivity of design positioning and evaluation, providing a scientific basis for the design of cultural and creative products of the Xiangxi Miao flower belt, and offering a new path for the sustainable inheritance of ethnic cultural heritage.
