Aging-friendly Pharmaceutical Packaging Design Based on the SOC Theory

Abstract

The work aims to explore the specific needs of elderly users in the process of using drug packaging, to design more aging-friendly drug packaging products that closely meet the actual needs of the elderly, thereby enhancing the aging-friendliness of drug packaging and improving the overall satisfaction and ease of use of drug packaging for elderly users. Based on the SOC theory, a selection layer, an optimization layer, and a compensation layer were constructed to effectively combine the aging and behavioral patterns of elderly users, achieving the optimization of aging-friendly drug packaging design. Firstly, in the selection layer, the initial needs of elderly users were obtained through research, and the KANO model was used to classify the attributes of the needs. Secondly, in the optimization layer, the AHP method was used to assign weights to user needs and rank them, clarifying the main needs of users. The main user needs were mapped to design elements through the QFD method to form a design plan. Finally, in the compensation layer, the TOPSIS method was used to evaluate the applicability and satisfaction of the design plan and provide feedback to modify the design plan, forming the optimal design plan. The aging-friendly drug packaging design model based on the SOC theory completed the design practice of aging-friendly drug packaging and verified the effectiveness of the model through design evaluation. The aging-friendly drug packaging design model based on the SOC theory effectively improves the user experience, safety and satisfaction of elderly users, solves the drug packaging usage obstacles caused by the decline in physiological or cognitive abilities of the elderly group, and provides new research ideas for the design of aging-friendly drug packaging.
