Innovative Design of Xiaoyi Shadow Puppetry Patterns Based on Shape Grammar

Abstract

The work aims to design a silk scarf with culture attributes and its packaging based on patterns of Xiaoyi Shadow Puppetry props as innovative design objects, in order to promote the innovation and dissemination of Xiaoyi Shadow Puppetry culture in modern society. Firstly, the cultural connotations and decorative features of Xiaoyi Shadow Puppetry props were interpreted in details through literature research and field research. Next, typical patterns were extracted with shape grammar as initial shapes for preliminary evolution and secondary design recombination on this basis. Then, two continuous patterns were formed and integrated into cultural and creative product design practice by recombination of graphics and extracting colors from samples according to the principles of formal beauty. Finally, the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method was used to transform qualitative evaluation into quantitative multi-criteria decision-making by establishing a membership function, so as to finalize the design scheme. Innovative design has enabled Xiaoyi Shadow Puppetry props to be widely used in modern society. Guided by modern composition methods and formal beauty principles, these designs not only integrate into modern life, but also expand the scope of display, opening up new ideas for the inheritance and development of Xiaoyi Shadow Puppetry culture.
