Design of a Proactive Health Management Service System for Older Adults Based on the Health Belief Model

Abstract

In the context of advancing healthy aging strategies and addressing the limitations of "passive management" model in older adults health management, the work aims to develop a proactive health management service system centered on guiding health behaviors and enhancing health capabilities among older adults, thereby shifting the health management paradigm from disease intervention to capacity empowerment. Initially, a structural equation model was introduced to identify latent variables and observed variables and construct a model of factors influencing health management behaviors in older adults by analyzing the components of the Health Belief Model and the health management behaviors of older adults. Next, data were collected through questionnaires and AMOS was employed to validate the model and quantify path coefficients. Finally, based on the path coefficient results, system function priorities were established, leading to the development of a functional framework for an older adults health management service system, which was applied in the design and validation of the "JoyAge" APP. Empirical analysis revealed that perceived benefits, self-efficacy, and cues to action had significant positive impacts on health management behaviors among older adults, while perceived susceptibility and perceived severity had relatively weaker effects, and perceived barriers exhibited a significant negative impact on health management behaviors. In conclusion, this empirical study based on the Health Belief Model provides theoretical foundations and practical pathways for designing health management service systems for older adults, offering significant insights into enhancing proactive health management capabilities among older adults.
