Evolution and Symbiotic Correlation of Product Design Requirements Based on Lotka-Volterra

Abstract

In response to estimation deviations caused by complex dynamic relationships among product design requirements, the work aims to propose an evolution and symbiotic correlation analysis method of Lotka-Volterra-based requirements to explore interaction strength and dynamic evolution trends among requirements. Firstly, product review texts across multiple generations were mined, hierarchically summarized and clustered, and combined with evaluation results to obtain requirement satisfaction for each product generation. Secondly, based on the generation-wise satisfaction data, correlation coefficients between the core requirement and others were derived to filter significantly associated requirements. Thirdly, based on Lotka-Volterra equations, external disturbances were incorporated to construct a symbiotic correlation evolution model for the core requirement and its significantly associated requirements to analyze interactions among requirements. Finally, the generation-wise satisfaction data were piecewise-fitted, with model coefficients solved via the Radau method and the least-squares algorithm, to explore interaction relationships and evolutionary trends between the core requirement and its significantly associated requirements. With GoPro portable action cameras as an example, the interactions and evolution trends between portability as a core requirement and its significantly associated requirements were analyzed, and the applicability of the proposed method was validated. The method can be used to explore interactions among requirements and their dynamic evolution, providing a novel research perspective for requirement analysis, and effectively supporting iterative product optimization.
