Montessori-inspired Guidance-oriented Furniture Design for Child Development

Abstract

The work aims to systematically explore the user needs and design elements of children's furniture and identify optimal design strategies for children's furniture to fulfill children's cognitive growth needs and scientific nurturing objectives. Firstly, a user needs inventory was constructed through the KJ Method. Subsequently, the Kano model was implemented to classify user need attributes and prioritize their criticality. Following this, the QFD House of Quality model was leveraged to convert user needs into design elements and rank their implementation priorities. Ultimately, design strategies informed by Montessori educational principles were developed and validated via practical design applications. This method can accurately grasp user needs and core design points, adapt to the needs of children's multi-stage development, expand the design ideas of children's furniture product development and optimization, and provide assistance for children's cognitive development environment creation and health cultivation.
