A Review of the Design of Sensory Compensatory Travel Environment for Visually Impaired Groups Based on Intelligent Assistance Technology

Abstract

The rapid development of neuroimaging has improved the scientific understanding of the physiological mechanism of sensory compensation, and promoted the vigorous and high-speed iteration of most intelligent assistance technologies and devices based on sensory compensation, which has increased the disconnection from the construction of traditional barrier-free public travel environment. The work aims to review the development status of sensory compensatory travel environment design for the visually impaired groups and explore its development trends, to provide directional references for further design research in this field. Through the literature research method, the PRISMA systematic review method was used to screen the sensory compensatory environment and intelligent travel assistance technology of the relevant visually impaired groups, and summarize the existing research literature and application results in architecture, ergonomics, neuroimaging, etc. Based on the perspective of the four types of sensory compensation mechanisms of smell, hearing, touch and vision, the sensory compensation operation mechanism of the three types of travel environments that supported necessity, persistence and contingency was analyzed, and the key points of sensory compensation travel environment scenarios in the future smart street scenario were summarized. Summarizing the travel laws of the visually impaired group, building a barrier-free environment design that supports the travel law of the visually impaired group from the perspective of sensory compensation, and combining the multi-sensory compensation mechanism with intelligent assistance technology to improve the accessibility level of urban streets will be an important research trend to achieve the goal of "friendly city for all" in the future, and strengthen the integration of theoretical research with human-computer interaction technology and inclusive design methods.
