Modular Fresh Food Logistics Packaging Design Oriented toward Sustainable Development

Abstract

To address sustainability issues in current fresh food logistics packaging, such as excessive material consumption, insufficient structural adaptability, and low recycling efficiency, the work aims to explore modular packaging design methods to improve environmental performance and operational efficiency. An integrated research framework combining the KJ method, Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP), and Function-Behavior-Structure (FBS) model was constructed. Firstly, the KJ method was employed to organize and synthesize demand information from stakeholders involved in fresh food logistics, extracting key sustainability-oriented design requirements. Secondly, FAHP was applied to quantify and prioritize critical criteria, including environmental friendliness, recyclability, and adaptability. Finally, the FBS model was introduced to map the weighted requirements into functional, behavioral, and structural layers, guiding the generation and optimization of modular fresh food logistics packaging structures. The results demonstrated that the corrugated cardboard packaging solution based on modular partitions and honeycomb structures exhibited significant advantages in reducing material usage, improving space utilization, and enhancing packaging reusability, effectively meeting the adaptability requirements of different fresh food categories and logistics scenarios. The proposed KJ-FAHP-FBS integrated design approach enables a systematic design process from demand identification to structural implementation, providing a practical and valuable reference for the sustainable design of fresh food logistics packaging.
